Oscar 2009

Chegou novamente um dos momentos mais aguardados do ano. A cerimônia de premiação do Oscar (os Academy Awards) que chega a sua 81a edição. Este ano, como em anos anteriores, os principais concorrentes não foram sucessos de bilheteria, felizmente a qualidade dos filmes fala por si mesmo.
It's that time of the year again. The Academy Awards 2009 will be held in Hollywood this Sunday. This year just like the previous ones the main contenders weren't box office hits, but undeniably great movies.

Slumdog Millionaire e The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, ambos com múltiplas indicações, são os grandes favoritos da noite.
Slumdog Millionaire (10 nods) and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (13 nods) are the front-runners for every category in which they are nominated to.

Fiquei sabendo pelos noticiários online que o Oscar não será transmitido em rede aberta pela Rede Globo de televisão como planejado, em função da transmissão do Carnaval. Uma pena, já que os direitos não foram repassados a nenhuma outra emissora competente para o serviço. Portanto, este ano, é TV a cabo ou nada.
Reading some brazilian press online news, I came to know that this year's Oscar ceremony won't be broadcasted due to schedule conflicts with the traditional Carnival Parade in Rio de Janeiro. Unfortunately, the TV station (Rede Globo) that owns the broadcasting rights didn't pass it to a different station which means this year it'll be only possible to watch through Cable TV.

Bom, polêmicas a parte, meus amigos sabem que desde 2003 participo do já tradicional Bolão da FOX (uma locadora de vídeos em Belém). Este ano, mesmo estando no Japão, não poderia deixar de manter tal tradição.
Well, my friends know I take part in an annual competition known as Bolão da FOX sponsored by a video store called FOX. Basically, you must predict the Academy Awards winners in 16 categories in order to win.

Costumava arrastar os amigos pro cinema nas semanas que antecediam a premiação, especialmente o primo, para assistir as produções indicadas, as quais muitas vezes eles nunca tinham ouvido falar, já que algumas não eram de grandes produtoras.
I used to drag my friends to the movies during the weeks preceding the Oscar ceremony, especially the cousin, so we could watch the nominated productions. Even when nobody heard about the movie before, particularly the low-budget ones.

Discutia com todos, sob as diferentes visões de cada um, para que eu pudesse fazer as considerações finais para a minha lista de aposta. Este ano, entretanto, foi um pouco diferente. Assisti a maioria dos filmes sozinho, assim como a maioria das análises para formular a lista. Até liguei pro amigo LD um dia, que lembrei muito dele (Salve LD!), já que ele costumava baixar o que eu não conseguia assistir no cinema.
I used to discuss with them, listening their different opinions on the movies, so then I could make my final bet list. However, This year it was a bit unusual since I had to watch most of the movies all by myself. I even called my friend LD who used to download the movies that didn't make into theaters on time.

À propósito, este ano foi tudo na base do download, afinal cinema do Japão é praticamente inexistente. Pra vocês terem uma idade, deve estrear 7 Vidas esse mês... sem mais comentários.
By the way, this year I had to download basically all the movies. It's so hard to watch good movies in Japan. Other than that, it takes sooo long for those movies to be released in Japan. Seven Pounds, for example, will be released this month!... no comments.

UPDATE 1
Fiquei muito satisfeito com a premiação! Especialmente porque acertei 14 das 16 categorias válidas para o Bolão da FOX. (Yeah!!!!) Resultado deve sair na terça-feira. Os erros que tive esse ano foram Filme Estrangeiro e Melhor Ator.
I was really satisfied with the ceremony this year. Well, especially because I guessed 14 correct winners out of the 16 valid categories to the Bolão da FOX competition. The results will be available next Tuesday. My mistakes this year were Best Foreign Language Film and Best Actor.


Filme Estrangeiro não tinha erro, era Waltz with Bashir! Ganhu até Globo de Ouro, um filme bom demais para ser ser esnobado pela Academia. Mas, não teve jeito, veio a zebra. Japão levou pela primeira vez com Departures.
Waltz with Bashir was a sure bet for Best Foreign Language Film. It even won a Golden Globes as well as other major awards. But, it was surprised by the winning of Japan's movie Departures. This is Japan's first award in this category.


Melhor Ator era Sean Penn pra mim desde que assisti Milk, porém ao refletir bastante sobre todos os fatores que poderiam influenciar essa decisão, acabei apostando no Mickey Rourke de última hora. "Que merrrda!"... Mas o Sean Penn mereceu!
I was sure about Sean Penn for Best Actor since I watched Milk, but thinking over and over about all factors which could possibly have some influence in the final decision, I ended up believing Mickey Rourke's comeback story would help him. Damn last minute thought! Sean Penn deserved the award this year, though.

Liguei pros amigos do Brasil durante os intervalos! Muito bom ter compartilhado esse momento que se fez novamente especialmente também por vocês! Valeu!!!

Olha só, os amigos de Belém, na tradicional foto no sofá da sala lá de casa! Vale lembrar que eu estava no telefone com eles nesse momento ;) nada como se fazer presente de alguma maneira! hahaha...
Check this out! My friends from my hometown in Brazil sitting on the sofa in the living room of my house while taking our traditional picture. By the way, I was on the phone with them at the same moment ;) there's nothing like trying your best to be there! hahaha...

O resultado do Bolão saiu... e... e... eu não ganhei nada denovo! =(
Acredite, teve um cara que acertou tudo e outras 10 pessoas que acertaram 15. Enfim, tem sempre o ano que vem ;) A saga continua...
The results were announced and.... and.... I didn't win anything =(
One guy had a perfect score and other 10 people had only one mistake.
So, this saga goes on... waiting for next year alredy ;)
